Maravovo Bay Zero

“The Maravovo Zero”. August 1943: A Japanese A6M2 Model 21 Zero fighter (Tail Code 114?) on the beach at Maravovo Bay, wes of Cape Esperance, Guadalcanal. It is likely to be one of at least four Zeroes force landed in the local area by the 252nd and 253rd Kokutai on January 25, 1943, due to bad weather.

This view looks to the Northeast. The waves breaking on the horizon above the tip of the upright propeller blade is surf on Saw Reef. The Western side of Savo Island can be seen just peeking out from behind the point. GPS 9° 17.225’ S, 159º 37.347’E
