Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina Flying Boat, BuNo. 08388, Plane No. 73, of U.S. Navy Patrol Squadron 91 (VP-91) which crashed off the coast of South ‘Are ‘Are Lagoon looked very similar to this Catalina depiction. The crash, in November 1943, occurred on the squadron’s second tour of the South Pacific and was very violent, killing six of the ten crew onboard. [Aircraft profile by Jim Laurier.
