Submarine I 123

The first Japanese submarine casualty of the WWII Solomons Campaign was the special mine laying submarine I-123. Ironically, it was sunk  off the coast of Malaita on August 29, 1942, by a minesweeper, the USS Gamble (DM-15). The photo depicts a sister sub, the I-122.
